Baldwinsville, VVS advance to NYS Championships

The Baldwinsville HS boys team, led by Tanner Rozyczko, surprised the field and won the Division 1 championship. Rozyczko led the field with 1450 pinfall, good for a blistering 241 6-game average. The Bees got off to a strong start with a 1083 opening game, but trailed by a small margin to Oswego after game 1, who shot a tournament high 1124 led by Eric Carson’s 300 game. However, Baldwinsville followed with games of 1107, and 1091 to take control of the tournament. Their only lull was an 891 game in game number 5, but they rebounded in game 6 with a 1080 to finish strong and remove any doubt.

VVS won their 2nd consecutive Division 2 Title. Locked in a fierce duel with New Hartford for most of the morning, VVS led by a mere 27 pins after 3 games, but opened up some breathing room after a 1046-946 game 4. VVS and New Hartford traded blows during game 5 and 6 while Homer snuck into the 2nd place position with a strong second half. VVS was led by Adam Smith’s 1318 (218 avg) and Brayden Bechtel’s 1265 (210 avg). Homer was led by Nick Hinshaw and Rick Lambrecht 1256 and 1249 respectively.

Both Baldwinsville and VVS advance to the NYS Championship to represent Section 3 in their respective Division championship. Baldwinsville will compete on Sunday March 15th at 9:00 am, while VVS will compete on Friday March 13th at 12:00pm.
